National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM)

NCOAA is proud to launch the CO Safety Coalition at NASFM’s 33rd Annual Fire Prevention & Safety Symposium. NASFM's Mission Is Two-Fold: 1) To protect human life, property and the environment from fire. 2) To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of State Fire Marshals' operations.

The membership of National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) comprises the most senior fire officials in the United States. State Fire Marshals' responsibilities vary from state to state, but Marshals tend to be responsible for fire safety code adoption and enforcement, fire and arson investigation, fire incident data reporting and analysis, public education and advising Governors and State Legislatures on fire protection. Some State Fire Marshals are responsible for fire fighter training, hazardous materials incident responses, wildland fires and the regulation of natural gas and other pipelines.

International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA)

The International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA) Member Section offers a fantastic opportunity to network with other experts responsible for the prevention of fire, the investigation of fires, and/or public fire and life safety education programs.

Safe Kids Logo

SAFE KIDS

Safe Kids Worldwide® is a nonprofit organization working to reduce unintentional injuries to children ages 0-14 and build equitable and sustained systems that support injury prevention. Most people are surprised to learn preventable injuries are the number one cause of death to children in the United States.

Safe Kids works with strategic partners and an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, sleep-related deaths, falls, burns, poisonings, and more. We achieve this work through a public health approach that includes research, interventions to educate and raise awareness, safety device distribution, and advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels. Safe Kids also supports a worldwide alliance of like-minded organizations in more than 20 countries.

Since 1987, when Safe Kids was co-founded by Dr. Marty Eichelberger and Herta Feely of the Children’s National Hospital with support from founding sponsor, Johnson & Johnson, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 61 percent.

Losing one child is one too many, and we don't want any parent to have to endure the loss of a child. We're calling on everyone to come together, to raise awareness, and to get involved so every child has the change to grow up and do all the great things kids were meant to do

The lauren project logo.png

The Lauren Project

Since Lauren's accidental death from the effects of this silent killer, we are fanatics about the need for every home that has any exposure to carbon monoxide be protected with detectors. Recently, the local fire chief emailed us that they had just been to a carbon monoxide emergency call at a million dollar home and you guessed it, no C.O. detectors. Luckily, they were not injured. The Lofgren family was not so fortunate. Just 6 weeks before Lauren's accidental death on January 5th, 2009, the Caroline and Parker Lofgren family and their 2 beautiful children, died in a multi-million dollar home in Aspen, Co. they had won for a few days at a silent auction. The death of these 5 gifted people led to legislative action in Colorado. In March of 2009, then Governor Bill Ritter, signed into law, the Lofgren Johnson Families Carbon Monoxide Safety Act. (HB 1091) This law requires C.O. detectors within 15 feet of every sleeping space in all new homes, homes that are sold, and rentals. Since there are an average of 56,000 homes sold in Colorado every year, if half of those do not have C.O. detectors but this law now requires them, you can see that many homes are gaining protection in Colorado every year. However, not all homes will be protected for many years and that is the group The Lauren Project is focusing on with its Colorado projects.

Since our inception in 2009, the LAUREN Project has donated thousands of C.O. detectors to low-income neighborhoods throughout the United States.
